A young girl who was kidnapped by some men that tried to force her to marry, was rescued by a group of lions who saved her life.
The 12-year-old Ethiopian girl was kidnapped by a group of seven men who wanted to force her to marry one of them. UN reports, more than 70% of the marriage in rural Ethiopia is accomplished through kidnapping the young women and forcing them.
This young girl had been missing for more than a whole week. Authorities and her family were amazed to find her being guarded and protected by a group of three lions who chased off her kidnappers.
Unfortunately, the young girl had been beaten repeatedly just before the group of lions found her. Apparently, the group of lions had been watching over her for a whole day just before the authorities could locate her place.
“They stood guard until we found her, and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest,” one police investigator told the Associated Press back in 2005 when the remarkable event was reported.
“If the lions had not come to her rescue, then it could have been much worse. Often these young girls are raped and severely beaten to force them to accept the marriage,” he said.
Thankfully, the police arrested four of the seven men and they took the young girl safely to her home to recover this horrible experience with her family.
The lions' behavior seems unbelievable, you might think they would attack the young girl, but they didn't, they literally saved her life.
“A young girl whimpering could be mistaken for the mewing sound from a lion cub, which in turn could explain why they didn’t eat her,” said Williams a wildlife expert.
