Guard dogs are not trained to attack. They can only learn how to warn their owner about the intruder who is trying to walk into their property. Opposite to what many people think,
guard dogs cannot be good attack dogs, nor does an attack dog make a good guard dog. The typical guard dogs can be found in any of the following small breeds:

During World War II, the US military forces called for donating pet dogs to join them. After trainings, and through trial and error with more than thirty breeds, they could exclude the most handful breeds for military work. The ideal breeds they picked included
German shepherd, Belgian Pinscher, and Farm Collie.
