Scientists believe that for every 10.000 mammals born on Earth, one will be born an albino. Albinism in animals is very rare, that's why many of the known albino animals are documented and analyzed. But there are a few albino animals who have been unnoticed.
The Albinism is an extremely rare condition among African elephants. Like the case in humans who have albinism, a majority of albino animals lack pigment in their skin, hair, scales, and feathers. The only thing that is different in the animal cases is that Albinism is considered a hereditary condition.
Here are the pictures that
Nicki Coertze, a tourist and a photographer who was on an African safari trip, shot while touring the area. He saw something rare and pretty stunning: a gorgeous little pink elephant playing by the river. It was an albino calf!
It was a spectacular tiny baby calf with bright pink ears and a coat which was muddy pink!
It was standing next to its mother and drinking from the nearby river.
Luckily, the pink baby calf is growing while surrounded by its family in the national park and that will keep her safe away from poachers and hunters.
“I took some lovely shots of the pink elephant. Some of the shots show it framed by the legs of another elephant, you can really see the contrast in color between the two as the calf shows off its unique pinkness beautifully,” Coertze, the photographer, told the Daily Mail.
Coertze said that he has been visiting the same national park for decades since his childhood.
“Bearing that in mind, I have an idea that this is a once-in-a-lifetime sighting for me,” he said.
We hope this pink calf grows up healthy. Enjoy watching the photos and don't forget to share the story with your family and friends!
