The Federal government has made a new right with one quiet policy change for those who protect animals and given them a new tool to fight animal abuse.
Starting this month, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will start tracking four types of animal abuse, in their national crime database, providing law enforcement with an accurate portrait of cruelty to animals in America for the very first time.
Previously, all animal abuse cases were classified with mainly minor crimes as "other offenses" in the agency's reporting system. But now there is so much difference, neglect, torture, abuse whether sexual or not against animals are classified as "Group A" offenses . Asking police to report such kind of cases to the FBI as the same case in other crimes such as assault or murder.
"No longer will extremely violent cases be included in the 'other offense' category simply because the victims were animals," posted the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) President Wayne Pacelle as a response to the change. "Just as the FBI tracks hate crimes and other important categories, we will now have critical data on animal cruelty."
Moreover to help police effectively allocate resources to fight animal abuse, this data will allow policymakers to examine animal cruelty at a national on a wide scale when the data is made public this year.
"The change instituted by the FBI formally recognizes the seriousness of animal abuse crimes and their negative impact on the welfare of society," said AWI President Cathy Liss. "The data that will become available as a result of this change will help law enforcement better understand and respond to these types of crimes, which occur alongside many other forms of violence and criminal activity."
This will make every animal lover so happy as I'm! Share this with your family and friends and let them know!
