They are lovable, charming, and goofy! If you have ever been close to a Pit Bull, you will know exactly what I'm talking about. I used to have a Pit Bull, and I really do not know why they receive bad press in the media! This is the reason why I decided to spot the light on
Stand Up For Pits, the series of events coming up around the US!
Rebecca Corry is actually a
"super funny comedian" In 2007, she adopted
Angel, her Pit Bull dog and closest companion ever since.
Rebecca was inspired by
Angel begin a series of events which lasted for six years. In 2013, she has decided to launch the
Stand Up For Pits as non-profit foundation.
Scroll through to know the amazing details!
Angel was once homeless, before being rescued from the South Central streets in LA. She was severely abused to the extent that
she needed a healthcare extensive course for two months! In the
LA Animal Services, Angel injuries that vets had to deal with included chemical burns on her back, numerous puncture wounds, horribly cropped ears, and a broken tail! Thank to the tremendous vets,
this adorable Pit Bull was nursed back to health. Rebecca and two of those amazing vets became close friends.
Rebecca adopted Angel, and used to refer her affectionately "The Velvet Hippo" Ms. Corry says about her:
"Angel is my best friend, she is a gift from Lord, and a light in this world. She led me to find my purpose in life; and she is the responsible of saving the lives of so many of her fellows"
Besides the
horrific things that keep happening to many Pit Bulls, Angel's story of sufferance inspired Ms. Corry to start her journey in order to raise the awareness for rescuing abused Pit Bulls around the country. Thus, she began producing the events of
Stand Up For Pits.
Since this non-profit foundation was born, Rebecca and her fellows at the
Stand Up For Pits use all their efforts to organize more shows every year. The main goal this group seeks to achieve is to help as many Pit Bulls as they can through donations and grants.
In 2014, the
Stand Up For Pits Foundation has organized the incredibly historic
One Million Pibble March in Washington DC, when about 5,000 people from all over the US and Canada rallied as one voice
against abusing and neglecting Pit Bulls, and specially
using them in dogfights.
Yet, their greatest events are the coming ones!
.
Ms. Corry plans to organize more events this year. She is going to tour eight cities together with
Stand Up For Pits, including New York City, Chicago, Baltimore, Salt Lake City, Tacoma, Indianapolis, and Arlington (already sold out!). In addition to the main stand up show performed by Rebecca, there will be a donation drives for local shelters and rescue organizations, adoption events, and a kissing booth where
Angel the Velvet Hippo will be waiting for visitors herself, ready to donate lots of kisses!
In 2015, The
Stand Up For Pits Foundation has raised over $25,000 worth of food and other shelter supplies, and other more thousands of dollars for many rescue organizations. This year they aim to help as twice as many dogs, through doubling the raises made in the last year. The events of
Stand Up For Pits Foundation became
the sole source of fundraising for many local shelters and rescue organizations.
Past and present stand up comedians, together with surprise guests, participated in the events of
Stand Up For Pits. Such as, Jeff Garlin, Whitney Cummings, Tig Notaro, Rosie O'Donnell, Bill Burr, David Spade, Janeane Garofalo who will perform again this year in New York City event. In the Baltimore event, Justin Schlegel has been added recently to the list! It makes sense that most of these performers and guests are dog owners and lovers themselves. The
Stand Up For Pits Foundation also keeps adding more and more comedians who support the cause against
breed discrimination and abuse.
These shows just seem to be fully loaded with surprises!

When Ms. Corry was asked if Angel has affected her work, she said that "Angel has all the qualities that I haven't" and that she wishes to be just as
personable and patient as her dog. In fact, Rebecca feels grateful for her beloved pup. She admits proudly that Angel helped her to evolve as a person and as a comedian too.
"She is incredibly hilarious! While she is very British, with this subtle and dry sense of humor, she brings laughter to my life every single day. My favorite kind of comedy to watch and perform is "storytelling" which is something that Angel inspires me about all the time, to tell stories about her of course. However, my best bits seem to be all about her!" said Rebecca.
If you loved the work of the
Stand Up For Pits Foundation but cannot attend one of their events, you can donate to the cause

homeless and abused Pit Bulls out there. Even if you cannot attend their events, you can be part of their
amazing success stories, they dare you to keep a dry eye when read them!
