Animal shelters are full of so many wonderful animals who need the forever homes they deserve. While it is amazing to be surrounded by those innocent creatures, working in an animal shelter can be a truly stressful job. Some animals are lucky to get adopted faster than you might think, but still
, a few people browse the internet for their local shelter.
Experienced shelter workers and volunteers know the fact that people decisions about their perfect fit are much affected
by photos. In most cases, photos don't bring out the best in the pets up for adoption and that's truly unfortunate!
Many pet lovers would think, and they are probably right, that beautiful photos of great animals make a HUGE difference in finding them families to adopt into. Therefore, Florida’s Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) decided to put this theory to test, and to hire a professional photographer to catch some powerful and mere photos of their dogs and cats.
By lining professional photos up side by side any one
would definitely notice how this one simple action can be in bringing out the best in a pet. Recently, everyone wants to hear all the details about how enhanced photography made a huge difference. According to PetaPixel, OCAS said:
"In the past, intake photos (which are taken immediately upon the seizure of the animal) might be the only image a person sees. But those pics are mainly for documentation, and identification for lost owners — they are not quality images. Often the animal is frightened, injured, and overall doesn’t connect with a prospective family. For a long time, this was the only or primary means of photography some shelters had, including us. A quality image makes the difference in motivating someone to come meet an animal in person — especially in rural communities. Amazing photography, coupled with social reach, have helped us take adoptions to new levels."
Actually, the difference this action caused makes a perfect sense, and it's good to know that OCAS decided to hire a professional photographer on a volunteer basis. Albert Harris, the photographer, has such a clearly profound impact on the images he captured that they truly speak for themselves.
OCAS continued to declare:
"Nothing compares to a captivating image. We find that people are connecting in a way with shelter animals that we’ve not seen before. Photography allows a family to see the dog’s personality, playfulness and of course – complete adorableness."
